Our Mission Statement

Our Mission is “To Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.” In fact, this is the mission statement of the United Methodist Church worldwide. At Troy UMC, we believe that we are called to provide ways for people to grow in their discipleship each time they enter this house of God.

Our Vision Statement as to how we intend to go about our Mission is: “Bringing our BEST to the Community!”
We believe that BEST stands for:
B=building relationships
E=equipping disciples
S=spreading Christ’s love
T=transforming the world

When we “bring our BEST” we are acknowledging that everything we do here at Troy UMC is measured against those 4 guidelines for ministry both inside and outside these walls.

B – We believe that it’s important to build relationships with one another. God has called us to love one another, to love our neighbor as ourselves, and to live in community with those around us. As a church, we strive to form friendships within the walls of our church, as well as with those in our community and the world at large. As we build relationships with others we recognize God’s handiwork in that each and every one of us with different talents and abilities that we can use in this world. As we build relationships with those that don’t know Christ, or those who have had a negative experience with a church, we hope to be able to share the love that Jesus has for them and the abundant life He offers to all his followers.

E – We As a body of believers, we hope to truly equip disciples so that we can go into the world to share the love of Christ with those who don’t yet know Him. We do this by practical Bible study, weekly sermons that offer life application, and spiritual gifts training. We never want for our church to become a place that you come to once a week to check off another box on your list. We want our church to be a training ground where we can be taught and spiritually fed so that we, in turn, can go out and share the love of Christ as we serve our families, communities, and the world around us.

S – God has such immense love for us that He sent His son to die on the cross for our sinfulness. As United Methodist, we see this unmerited gift as the definition of GRACE. We are a grace denomination. God’s people, who truly accept that gift of love and grace, are called to share the love of Christ within us with others. We want for the love of Christ to change us so that His love can be spilled out to our community and world. There are many ways in which to spread Christ’s love with others. Troy UMC strives to spread Christ’s love by meeting physical needs of those in our community, country, and world so that we open a door to be able to meet the spiritual needs of those persons as well.

T – Although it sounds like a lofty goal, Troy UMC desires to transform the world. And it starts with each of us, then moves outward into the community and world. We desire that the hearts of all people would be changed by Christ and that Christ would receive all glory. God calls us in Matthew 28:19-20 to “go and make disciples of all nations”. He urges us to spread the gospel so that all people enter into a relationship with Him. Can we do this alone? Of course not! In Matthew 28:20 He tells us “I am with you always.” With God working in us and through us, His people, we can truly continue His work of transforming the world so that people of all nations may know Him.
