Troy UMC History

In the late 1800, this church was known as the Troy Circuit of the Waco District. When land was given and the sanctuary was completed in the fall of 1900, this church began to grow and thrive. It has spent many years since it first began growing and serving Christ.
From 1962 to 1976, several buildings were added to the original structure to meet the growing needs of classroom space, a kitchen and fellowship hall. 1967, the Sanctuary was remodeled to accommodate the growing attendance. Continued improvements were made over the years to all the facilities with the addition of a steeple in the spring of 2000. In 2003, we began adding stained glass windows to our sanctuary in memory or honor of loved ones.

In 2010, the expansion of I-35 required our land, so we prepared to move. In June of 2011, we tearfully left the original 111-year- old building and temporarily moved to a vacant building at the old Troy School property. While there, we constructed a new 12,580 square foot facility on FM 935, capable of expansion. Several items from the 1900 building were incorporated into the new building to bring both history and the new growth alongside one another.

We opened the new church building in June of 2013, and our attendance and participation has exploded. After completing a Capital Campaign in 2016, we broke ground in February of 2017 for a Ministry Activity Center (gym), a classroom wing, storage and additional restrooms.

This church has a vision for “Bringing our BEST to the Community!” Bringing our BEST means that we are building relationships, equipping disciples, spreading Christ’s love and transforming the world. We seek to make an impact and a difference in this community and beyond. Our history has been to strengthen, encourage and enable people to be the hands and feet of Jesus and then reach beyond the walls of the church to put our faith into action. Every person who enters here is considered part of God’s faith family and we trust that if you are seeking a deeper relationship with Christ, you will encounter the love of Christ in this place. We hope you will join us as we continue to grow in our faith journey.
