Missions Ministry

KIDS AGAINST HUNGER – every Spring, we gather across the generations and spend a couple of hours packaging as many meals as possible for those in food insufficient areas of the world.  Many times these meals are sent to Haiti, the Philippines, and other countries in great need.  This February 2019, this group packaged 12,312 meals.  Each meal costs .25 and we use Christmas and Easter offerings to help defray the costs to shop the meals and pay for the supplies.  We invite you to be a part of KIDS AGAINST HUNGER!

SNACK BUDDIES – Throughout the school year in the Troy ISD we see a large need to assist food insufficient households that have been identified as needing assistance. The Troy United Methodist Church packages over 200 snacks for the weekend for children ages K-8th grade.  The food comes strictly from donations to this ministry – and it requires significant donations.  The snack bags are packaged each week by teams of volunteers and then delivered to the schools by volunteers.  If you wish to be a part of this dynamic ministry – please contact the church and they will connect you with the team leader.

WORSHIP BEYOND THE WALLS – every fall, the church takes a day in which we take our words and actions out into the community of Troy.  On that day, worship inside the building is cancelled, but our work in the world is an example of BEING the church beyond the walls.  We are called to serve others and while we spend many Sundays learning more about how to be a servant of Jesus Christ – on WBTW Sunday, we put our hands and feet into action and numerous teams go out and serve and work in places to show the love of Jesus Christ in the Troy community.  Watch the church calendar for the next scheduled WBTW and join us!

CTCYM – Central Texas Conference Youth in Missions – is a conference-wide mission initiative for 7th -12th grade youth every June and July.  Troy UMC has participated in this event every summer for the past several years and we look forward to the ways in which God will use our hands and feet alongside our brother and sisters from other UM churches in the Conference each year.  This church participates in the July event – and the years alternate inside and outside the conference but remain in the state of Texas at this time.  The June event is outside the state of Texas.  For more information, please contact our Youth Minister, Joey Gresham.
RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS – is an evening one to two times a year where Cross-Generational teams go into the community to show the love of Jesus in a variety of ways.  It is a church-wide favorite and we would love to have you participate with us.
FOOD PANTRY – Troy UMC maintains a food pantry for persons in the Troy ISD area to come and get emergency food sacks three times a year.  The Boy Scouts associated with the church collect food items at their annual drive, RMMS collects food during their yearly drive and donations help keep the pantry stocked as well as our 4th and 5th grade LYFE Group helps package the sacks each week.  This is another way that we are being the hands and feet of Jesus!
